Summer's #1 Billboard Songs of the Last 10 Years

As another summer comes to an end, we like to look back on what we experienced and all the fun we had. From pool parties, to road trips, to nights out with friends, music was usually involved. Music can make almost everything better.

The 4th of July is a great memory of summer as well; if you really think back, you can probably remember where you were watching fireworks on America’s birthday.

Just think where you were the last 10 July 4th holidays while you reminisce Billboard’s #1 song on July 4 for the last 10 years.

2015

“See You Again” by Wiz Khalifa featuring Charlie Puth

“See You Again” is the most recent Billboard #1 song for July 4 and seems like it is the song of the summer. It was debuted in the film “Furious 7″ (2015) as a tribute to Paul Walker who passed away in a car accident in 2013.

Wiz Khalifa is a well known rapper with songs like “Black and Yellow” (2011) and “Work Hard Play Hard” (2012). He is also known for his tattoos and former wife, Amber Rose.

Featuring in “See You Again” is the young and fresh artist, Charlie Puth. Puth is a 23-year-old from New Jersey and was discovered from his YouTube channel and “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” in 2009. He is becoming quite the popular singer with his very catchy single “Marvin Gaye” (2015) featuring Meghan Trainor.

2014

“Fancy” by Iggy Azalea featuring Charli XCX

Many do not know, but Iggy’s legal name is Amethyst Amelia Kelly. In 2014, ”Fancy” was Iggy Azalea’s first song to go viral and is still is a major hit today.

The 25-year-old Australian singer got creative with her “Fancy” music video with a “Clueless” theme. Iggy and the rest of the actors were dressed in the same costumes as the 1995 film, Iggy’s identical to the main character Cher.

Since then Iggy has had popular songs like “Black Widow” (2014) and “Pretty Girls” (2015) featuring major pop singer Britney Spears.

2013

“Blurred Lines” by Robin Thicke featuring T.I. & Pharrell

Although, this song has spurred some major controversies, it was very popular in 2013. The song was created by singer and songwriter Pharrell Williams inspired by a Marvin Gaye song; however, Williams and Thicke were sued by Gaye’s family for copyright infringement. In March of this year the two artist had to dish out around $7.2 million for the lawsuit of the song.

Nevertheless, the song was quite popular in 2013 and gave both Robin Thicke and Pharrell a lot of publicity. Pharrell Williams is known for his position as a judge on “The Voice,” along with being an award winning singer and songwriter. He has hit songs like “Happy” (2014) and “Come Get it Bae” (2014).

Robin Thicke is known for his songs such as “Lost Without U” (2006) and “Give It 2 U” (2013). He is also known for his recent divorce of his 10 year marriage with Paula Patton.

2012

“Call Me Maybe” by Carly Rae Jepsen

The song “Call Me Maybe” started off Carly Rae Jepsen’s career in 2012. Believe it or not, the Canadian pop singer is actually 29 years old. Her hit “Call Me Maybe” was the pop song of the summer in 2012.

Since then, Carly Rae Jepsen has been on tour with also Canadian artist Justin Bieber. She also has a hit song out right now called “I Really Like You” (2015).

2011

“Give Me Everything” by Pitbull featuring Ne-yo, Afrojack & Nayer

Mr. Worldwide really blew up after releasing this single with three other hot artists. Since then the 34-year-old rapper has made hit songs like “Fireball” (2014) and “Timber” (2013).

The singer-songwriter Ne-Yo is known for his songs such as “She Knows” (2015) and “Let Me Love You” (2012). Afrojack is a well known music producer and DJ and has produced many popular singles like “Take Over Control” (2010).

Nayer is a singer that is mainly popular from “Give Me Everything,” but has also been featured in a few other songs.

2010

“California Gurls” by Katy Perry featuring Snoop Dogg

In 2010, Katy Perry made a #1 Billboard song on July 4 called “California Gurls.” The pop singer was born in California and certainly knew how to rock this “California Gurl” song. During 2010, Katy was becoming more and more of a big deal in the music industry and has continued to rise since then. Ms. Perry is estimated to be worth about $200 million.

2009

“Boom Boom Pow” by The Black Eyed Peas

The Black Eyed Peas group was very popular in the ’90s, ’2000s and even now. Since their hit song “Boom Boom Pow” they have recorded songs like “I Got A Feeling” (2009), “Meet Me Halfway” (2009) and “I Just Can’t Get Enough” (2010).

2008

“I Kissed a Girl” by Katy Perry

“I Kissed a Girl” was Katy Perry’s first song to go viral and made her known to the world and she was only 24 years old at the time. Since then Perry has had many hit singles and albums such as “Roar” (2013), “Firework” (2010), and “E.T.” (2010).

She was also the honored guest at the 2014 Super Bowl Halftime Show. She is also known for her former marriage to comedian and actor Russell Brand.

2007

“Umbrella” by Rihanna featuring Jay-Z

In 2007, Rihanna got us all under her umberella ella ella. Rihanna was a new artist and was only 19 years old at the time. Now, at the age of 27 the artist is estimated to be worth $90 million.

Since 2007, Rihanna has become one of the most popular celebrities, with songs like “FourFiveSeconds” (2015) and “Diamonds” (2012).

2006

“Promiscuous” by Nelly Furtado featuring Timbaland

“Promiscuous” was the song in 2006; however, Nelly Furtado was more popular in 2006 than she is today. Many of  Furtado’s songs like “I’m Like A Bird” (2006) and “Say It Right” (2006) are still very well known today.

Timbaland on the other hand has gotten more popular as an artist. He now has hit songs like “If We Ever Met Again” (2009) and “Hands in the Air” (2012).

2005

“We Belong Together” by Mariah Carey

Last but not least (Yes, 2005 was TEN years ago) one of Mariah’s biggest hits, “We Belong Together.” Mariah was 35 at the time and now at 45 she is a divorced mother to two young children by Nick Cannon.

Since “We Belong Together” debuted, she has had hit singles such as “#Beautiful” (2014); however, the peak of Carey’s career was in the late ’90s.
